Saptak Music School offers Hindustani Vocal and Tabla lessons. The purpose of this school is to promote Indian music and culture especially to younger generations in the USA.
Nidrita Mitra-Sinha (Hindustani vocal music lessons)
Nidrita is the founder of the music school ‘Saptak’ in Pittsburgh, PA and teaches Indian classical music. Nidrita is also a faculty of Pandit Jasraj Institute of Music in the USA. Nidrita is an established performer of Indian Classical, Semiclassical, Rabindrasangeet, and modern music. She has preformed in different cities in the USA including Washington DC, New Jersey, Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland. She has also performed in Kolkata, India. Nidrita started learning Hindustani classical music at the early age of 6 with great inspiration from her parents. Nidrita continues to learn Hindustani Classical music from Pta Tripti Mukherjee, a senior disciple of Pt. Jasrajji. She has also learned Rabindra Sangeet from Smt. Banani Ghosh. She has published 3 CDs of Rabindrasangeet to her credit. Nidrita has directed many musical show in USA. Nidrita is a Computer Engineer and she has a great love and passion for music.
Asish Sinha (Tabla lessons)
Asish Sinha is an established tabla player in Pittsburgh area. He continues to learn tabla from Pt. Samir Chatterjee of Farukkabad gharana since 2003. Asish undertook his tabla career at the age of 10, under the guidance of Sri Ram Ranjan Roy, a disciple of the renowned tablist Pandit Mahapurush Mishra of the Benaras gharana. He has been performing in USA for several years. He has also performed in Tablaphilia (a group Tabla Ensemble) at Kolkata, India and at the Chhandayan all night classical concert in NY. He has accompanied many famous visiting artists from India. Asish Sinha is a Metallurgical engineer by profession and continues to play the tabla for his pleasure.
